More school work but for a different class. I want to give a huge thank you to the very talented who let me use his beautiful portrait [link] as refrence for this study! Check out his gallery it is amazing!
I lost a lot of the original vine line art and proportions when I went back over it with compressed charcoal, I'm hoping this will get better with practice and one day I can do this portrait justice!
The beautiful lighting on this made for a really fun charcoal drawing. The dark shadow down the center of her face scared the hell outta me as I kept feeling like I was losing too much of her features. (looking at it now I still feel like I should go darker) My teacher has been trying to teach us cross contour and this drawing really helped me with my understanding of it! (done almost completely in compressed charcoal)
I'm thinking if you go over it one more time to put a bit more depth in it she would really jump out of the page. It's great and I know the photo reference isn't that dark but I just think it could be more striking
